International Zürich

In 2008, more than half of the world's population lived in cities, and in another four decades, that is set to rise to over 75%. The economic, ecological and social problems of an ever more globalised world are building up within cities, and they will be the deciding factors as to whether this globalisation will succeed in a sustainable manner.

The City of Zürich makes a contribution to international politics and global sustainable development within bilateral city partnerships, political city networks, technical groupings and ad hoc types of international collaboration, including taking part in the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Alongside humanitarian and developmental objectives, the international marketing and positioning of the City of Zurich is playing an ever more important role.
