Pleasure and intoxication in Indian painting

Pleasure and intoxication

Park-Villa Rieter
12 January until 2 May 2010

For once, Indian miniatures offer more than purely visual intoxication. Look over Shiva’s and Parvati’s shoulders as they filter hemp mash through cotton cloth and prepare a potent brew, or enter an opium den whose delirious occupants are taking pot shots at a mouse. This cultural-historical exhibition is dedicated to the different aspects of pleasure and intoxication in Indian culture.
