Special Educational Needs

Therapy situation

Pupils with special educational needs will, as best as possible and within the regular classroom, have their needs met. The mainstream school recognises the fact that all children are different, whether it is their learning style, rate of development, preferences or beliefs.

Supporting those children with special educational needs contributes to ensuring that all children and adolescents are able to integrate into and participate in society.

Reasons for special educational needs can be:

  • Remarkable abilities
  • Learning disabilities and behaviour issues
  • German as a second language

Special educational needs are addressed with the following offers:

«Integrative Förderung» (integrative support)

This is a program tailored to meet the SEN-children’s needs. It supports them in their educational and social development within a mainstream classroom.

For contact details and more information in German, please visit Integrative Förderung.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a means to help children and adolescents suffering from psychological or social stress as this may slow down their educational development.

For contact details and more information in German, please visit Psychotherapie.

Gifted and talented pupils

Pupils with remarkable abilities are also considered children with SEN. These children will also have their needs met through programs such as for instance the so-called «Universikum» program.

For contact details and more information in German, please visit Begabungs- und Begabtenförderung.

Audio educational activities

Audio educational activities are provided as a means of educational support for pupils with a hearing impairment within a mainstream classroom.

For contact details and more information in German, please visit Audiopädagogische Angebote.

German as a second language (DaZ)

«Deutsch als Zweitsprache» (DaZ) provides assistance for children and adolescents who have German as a second language.

For contact details and more information in German, please visit Deutsch als Zweitsprache (DaZ) im Aufnahmeunterricht or look for more information in English on the website of the Department of Education, Canton of Zurich.

Speech-Language Pathology

Some children might have a speech and/or language disorder which may affect their ability to talk, understand, read, and write. Such disorders have different causes, and may range from a few speech sound errors or repetitions of sounds or words to a total loss of the ability to use speech to communicate effectively. Speech-Language Pathology can help children with speech or language difficulties.
