Häufige Fragen zur Kleidermotte
Die Larven der Kleidermotten können das Protein Keratin verdauen. Dieses kommt in tierischen und menschlichen Haaren, Federn, Horn, Nägeln usw. vor. Man findet die Kleidermotte deshalb auch oft an mumifizierten Kadavern. Die Larven können aber Seide, Baumwolle und synthetische Produkte (Acryl, Nylon etc.) nicht verdauen. Deshalb werden diese Gewebe selten zerbissen.
Die Kleidermottenlarven spinnen mit eigener Seide, ihrem Kot und den herumliegenden Fasern einen Köcher, in welchem sie sich aufhalten. Diese Köcher, Kotkrümel und Häutungsreste können Sie bei einem Befall finden. Oft flattern auch Motten in der Nähe des Befallsortes herum. Falls Sie diese Dinge bei den Kleidungsstücken mit Löchern nicht finden, kommen die Löcher nicht von der Kleidermotte. Eine defekte Waschmaschinen-Trommel kann beim Schleudern der Wäsche auch Löcher verursachen.
Das Öl hat auf Kleidermotten keine abschreckende oder abstossende Wirkung. Damit das Zedernholz seine Wirkung entfalten kann, muss die Konzentration über zwei Wochen hoch bleiben. Dies ist nur in einem dichten Behälter gewährleistet. Bei einem normalen Kleiderschrank, der täglich geöffnet wird, hat der Einsatz von Zedernholz keinen Sinn. Zedernholz, welches älter als ein Jahr ist, ist unwirksam, weil sich ein Grossteil der Öle schon verflüchtigt hat.
