Newsletter KiöR – Kunst im öffentlichen Raum

Mit einer Reihe von Vorträgen und Gesprächen geht die KiöR zusammen mit der Kunsthalle auf das Thema «Transformation initiieren oder begleiten» ein und geht dabei den aktuellen Tendenzen von Kunst im öffentlichen Raum nach.

Von 2010 bis 2019 organisierte die KiöR den «Lokaltermin Schwamendingen: Kunstbeobachtungen». Neben alljährlich wechselnden Besetzungen mit Kunstschaffenden, die sich mit dem Quartier befassten, führte die Fotografin Ruth Erdt bis 2024 eine Langzeitstudie durch. Die Kunsthalle Zürich zeigt nun eine Auswahl aus diesem umfangreichen Konvolut unter dem Titel K12 Schwamendingen.

Noch bis zum 19. Januar 2025 ist die Ausstellung «K12 – Schwamendingen» in der Kunsthalle Zürich zu sehen. Die Ausstellung baut auf einer Langzeitstudie der Künstlerin Ruth Erdt auf und wurde mit Unterstützung der Kunst im öffentlichen Raum (KiöR) realisiert. Zu sehen sind rund 5'000 der über 60'000 entstandenen Bilder über den Ort Schwamendingen. 

Eine weitere Vertiefung in die Langzeitstudie Erdts bietet die im Steidl Verlag erschienene Publikation «K12 – Schwamendingen, ein Randbezirk von Zürich». Auf über 900 Seiten kann man in rund 600 Abbildungen und Beiträge von u.a. Philipp Klaus, Sara Izzo und Heiko Schmid, Urs Stahel und der Künstlerin selbst eintauchen. 

With a series of lectures and discussions, the KiöR and the Kunsthalle are addressing the topic of «Initiating or accompanying transformation» and exploring current trends in art in public space.

From 2010 to 2019, the KiöR organized the «Lokaltermin Schwamendingen: Art Observations». In addition to annually changing line-ups with artists who dealt with the neighborhood, photographer Ruth Erdt conducted a long-term study until 2024. The Kunsthalle Zurich is now showing a selection from this extensive body of work under the title «K12 Schwamendingen». 

The exhibition «K12 Schwamendingen» can be seen at the Kunsthalle Zurich until January 19, 2025. The exhibition is based on a long-term study by artist Ruth Erdt and was realized with the support of Kunst im öffentlichen Raum (KiöR). On display are around 5,000 of the more than 60,000 pictures taken of Schwamendingen.

The publication «K12 - Schwamendingen, ein Randbezirk von Zürich», published by Steidl Verlag, offers a further profound look at Erdt's long-term study. On over 900 pages, you can immerse yourself in around 600 illustrations and contributions by Philipp Klaus, Sara Izzo and Heiko Schmid, Urs Stahel and the artist herself, among others.
