Join us for an engaging online conversation with Canadian author and activist Paulette Regan on her book Unsettling the Settler Within. In her role as the former research director for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, she shares what she’s learned from Indigenous survivors and reflects on her journey as a non-Indigenous ally. We will explore the resurgence of Indigenous cultures as powerful acts of resilience, the role of non-Indigenous people in addressing colonial histories—both in Canada and places like Switzerland—and what it means to be a respectful collaborator. This dialogue invites us to listen, unlearn, and work toward genuine partnerships rooted in respect, accountability, and a shared commitment to justice.
This event takes place in the context of the Orange Shirt Day/ National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It marks a National Day of Remembrance and education in Canada, held annually in September to acknowledge the ongoing intergenerational impacts of these institutions on Indigenous communities.
A tour through the exhibitions at NONAM before the talk situates the topic in a historical context and establishes current references and perspectives.
