CH City Position
The development of cities, agglomerations and metropolitan areas is one of the greatest challenges to be faced in the coming decades in Europe and around the world. Increasing globalisation is intensifying the competition between urban regions. As the driving forces of the economy, the Swiss cities are also facing particular challenges. Against this background, it is important that the cities agree on the role they wish to play in Swiss politics and spatial development.
As a result, several major Swiss cities – Basel, Bern, Biel, Chur, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Lucerne, Solothurn, St. Gallen, Winterthur, and Zurich – have come together for an open exchange with the aim of establishing a common position. This informal exchange of experiences between the cities, under the aegis of the Swiss Association for Planning VLP-ASPAN, led to the founding of the “CH City Position Platform” at the beginning of 2006.
