
Since the beginnings of the Zurich Succulent Plant Collection in 1931, we have been owned by the City of Zurich. An important pillar of our institution is the Förderverein der Sukkulenten-Sammlung Zürich. We present the world's most diverse collection of succulent plants, whose more than 90 years of development we continue according to scientific principles.
As a "living" museum, we convey the beauty and diversity of succulents, as well as their adaptability to their special habitats.
As a centre of excellence for all aspects of succulent plant species, we pass on our knowledge in a wide range of offers adapted to the various target groups. In the special atmosphere of our greenhouses by the lake, we provide an eventful education and enjoyable recreation for a broad population.
The Zurich Succulent Plant Collection is a municipal institution operated and financed by Grün Stadt Zürich. It is part of the Nature Promotion and Education division.
The team comprises 13 people from the fields of horticulture, science and education who contribute with heart and soul to the overall goals of the institution in different ways. We work with 1080 percent of the workforce. Of this, 75 percent of the jobs are financed by the Förderverein der Sukkulenten-Sammlung Zürich.

The Zurich Succulent Plant Collection is recognised as a scientific institution (registration number CH 016). The lending or exchange of living plants and preserved material according to Annexes I to III (CITES) is possible with registered scientific institutions.
The association was founded in 1996. It has around 500 members. It financially supports events, exhibition and educational projects as well as publications and acts as an important ambassador for the future development of the Succulent Plant Collection.

The Verband der Botanischen Gärten und Pflanzensammlungen der Schweiz (Association of Botanical Gardens and Collections of Switzerland) are committed to the preservation of national and international plant collections. It supports and promotes activities in the field of species and habitat protection in cooperation with regional and national authorities.

The Verband der Botanischen Gärten e.V. is the umbrella organisation of botanical gardens in German-speaking countries and represents the interests of its institutional and personal members both nationally and internationally.
The Verband der Botanischen Gärten e.V. and its members are committed to the conservation of biological diversity and are guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the National Strategy for Biological Diversity.
With the participation of the Zurich Succulent Plant Collection and other botanical gardens, the association has developed a position paper on how to deal with the historical heritage of the colonial era. The paper calls on botanical gardens to critically examine the colonial context of their collections in the past and present.
As a living museum institution, the Zurich Succulent Plant Collection is also a member of the Association of Swiss Museums (VMS). As an umbrella organisation, the VMS represents the interests of museums as well as regional and cantonal museum associations at national level. It promotes networking among museums, sets standards and serves as a forum for ideas and the exchange of experience.
The purpose of the Swiss Cactus Society (SKG) is to bring together succulent enthusiasts, to promote and maintain knowledge in the field of succulent science in both an amateur and scientific sense, and to represent the interests of other organisations. The SKG organizes, among other things, plant markets and lecture evenings.
The Zurich Succulent Plant Collection is an honorary member.
The Zurich Cactus Society (ZKG), the largest local group of the Swiss Cactus Society, was founded in 1925 and has over 150 members. The association is committed to the regular exchange of practical knowledge on the cultivation and cultivation conditions of succulent plants as well as travel experiences in the original habitats of the plants. Regular meetings and information evenings are offered for members and interested parties.
