For all accepted taxa, detailed descriptions, information on distribution and typing as well as references to the most important literature are given. Where necessary, information on ecology, ethnobotany, history, etc. is added, and in many places proposed kinship relationships are critically discussed.
The volume deals with the succulents of the families Anacardiacae, Begoniaceae, Bixaceae, Brassicaceae, Burseraceae, Capparaceae, Caricaceae, Clusiaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Francoaceae, Geraniaceae, Malvaceae, Melastomataceae, Meliaceae, Moraceae, Moringaceae, Oxalidaceae, Passifloraceae, Sapindaceae, Tropaeolaceae, Urticaceae, Vitaceae and Zygophyllaceae.

The repertory Plantarum Succulentarum (abbreviated RPS) is published annually. Each issue lists the new names (new taxa and recombinations) of succulent plants published in the previous year, supplemented by a bibliography of the literature on the taxonomy of succulent plants.
Until 2009, the RPS was published exclusively as a printed publication. Since 2011 (No. 61, for 2010), the RPS has been freely available as a PDF file under a Creative Commons license .
RPS LXXII (2021) has just come out and covers all the succulent literature from 2021.
«Phylogenomics and the rise of the angiosperms»
A new family tree of the covering-seeded plants was published in the renowned scientific journal "Nature" on 24 April 2024.
The Zurich Succulent Collection has made an important contribution to this with cacti from its live collection.
