Employment in industry is fairly stable despite the decline in workplaces. In the public-oriented industry, certain concentration processes are visible (increase in the number of employees in fewer workplaces), while the manufacturing industry is clearly under pressure (decrease in the number of workplaces and employees). Public-oriented workplaces are mainly to be found in the city centre and in the neighbourhood centres, while manufacturing companies are more evenly distributed throughout the city.

The greater the distance to the core city, the greater the importance of the trade and also the manufacturing industry. And contrary to the developments in the city of Zurich between 1998 and 2008, the industry, including .dem manufacturing, has increased in the agglomeration.
