Pilot Project 3: Arts for Future

With the pilot project «Arts for Future» Stadt Zürich Kultur supports cultural projects that address the topics of climate change and sustainability in a transdisciplinary way. The projects should apply sustainability to their working methods, production processes or event formats, or alternatively should illustrate artistically sustainable ideas and approaches for our society. A combination of both is also possible.

The call for proposals ran until 15 September 2022 and a total of 31 projects were submitted. A total funding amount of 215 000 Swiss francs was available in this pilot project. On the recommendation of the five-member jury «Kultur Labor Zürich» awarded seven grants of between 15 000 and 45 000 Swiss francs in October 2022.

    About Kultur Labor Zürich

Digitalisation, globalisation, climate change and the coronavirus pandemic are changing society, our shared existence and culture. Stadt Zürich Kultur wants to be able to react to changes in society. Through the «Kultur Labor Zürich» project, the Cultural Affairs Office of the City of Zurich is turning a critical eye on itself, scrutinising its own funding and trying out new forms and formats of funding for artists on the basis of pilot projects. These pilots are jointly developed, carried out and evaluated by a team of artists, experts and staff from the Cultural Affairs Office. The aim of the 3-year project is to gain insights for a future-oriented funding system, support new forms of art and strengthen participation by artists and the public. The project is like a laboratory: it is experimental in nature, and all content is developed through participation and exchange between art and culture professionals, experts and employees of the Cultural Affairs Office as well as the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
