Declaration of Sponsorship

You plan on inviting a foreign national from a country subject to visa-requirements to Switzerland for a maximum of 3 months as a tourist.

Foreign visitors required to hold a visa to enter Switzerland first submit a visa application (letter of invitation) to the Swiss embassy or consulate at their place of residence. If the visa is not granted, you can ask for a «declaration of sponsorship» form at the Swiss embassy or consulate.  The foreign visitors have to fill in the declaration of sponsorship and send it to you in Switzerland as their host. If you are willing to accept the costs of CHF 30’000.- (guaranteed sum), you complete and sign the «declaration of sponsorship».  You take the declaration to the city hall in person and the resident's registration office will check your solvency.

Please bring the following documents:

  • Declaration of sponsorship (form available at the Swiss embassy or consulate abroad)
  • An identity document (passport, identity card, residence permit)
  • Pay slips from the last three months (monthly income of at least CHF 4’000.-) or current bank statements with an amount of more than CHF 30’000.-
  • Most recent statement of the debt enforcement register «Betreibungsregisterauszug» (not older than 1 month / for married couples one recent statement each)
  • CHF 60.- per declaration of sponsorship
  • Possible travel insurance (minimum coverage CHF 50'000.-)

As a host or hostess (guarantor) you have to contact us in person.

After confirmation, the transmission to the Swiss embassy or consulate abroad takes about 20 working days, depending on the country. After that, the foreign visitor can enquire at the embassy or consulate whether the visa will be granted.
