ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability
The Europe-wide network ICLEI was founded in 1990 and focuses on the environmental, social and economic sustainability of cities. It is committed to political goals and is making major lobbying efforts in Brussels. ICLEI strives to implement international environmental agreements at the local level, and in this regard the network sees itself as a "movement" to plan, monitor and promote campaigns and programmes worldwide.
In 2004, ICLEI initiated "Procura+", another European network for professional exchange and activities in the field of sustainable and innovative public procurement. The city of Zurich is a founding member of "Procura+" and has been actively involved for almost twenty years.
