Solidarity Cities is a political initiative to tackle the refugee crisis, proposed by the Mayor of Athens and launched as part of the Eurocities network. The participating cities are committed to their key role in the integration of refugees. They are striving for European solutions and solidarity between the different cities affected.

For Mayor Corine Mauch, the city of Zurich's commitment to asylum policy at both local and international level is indispensable. Specifically, in this context, Zurich, together with Amsterdam, provided advice to the Greek city of Thessaloniki in the planning of informal educational opportunities for unaccompanied minor refugees.
