Module B: Project contributions

Eligible international cooperation organisations

In accordance with the International Cooperation Regulations (RIZA, RO 865.130), the City of Zurich grants project grants to submitted applications for sustainable poverty reduction in developing countries and to strengthen social and economic development, especially in urban areas. International cooperation organisations that have their headquarters in Switzerland, are entered in the commercial register, are politically neutral and have ZEWO certification are entitled to submit submissions. Furthermore, professional bookkeeping and auditors are required. The organization must also have project sovereignty. Further information on the requirements can be found in the requirements catalog.

Contributions

The project contributions awarded may not exceed 50 percent of the actual project costs. There is a financial lower and upper limit for a project contribution. The following minimum and maximum project contributions apply:

  • Minimum project contribution for a project duration of 12 months is CHF 25'000.- or CHF 50'000.- for
    24 months.
  • Maximum project contribution for a project duration of 12 months is CHF 125,000 or CHF 250,000 for 24 months. 

Application submission project year 2023

The submission of applications for the year 2023 is open to all NGOs that meet the aforementioned criteria according to RIZA. A maximum of two new applications can be submitted per NGO. 

When submitting follow-up applications , the following additional requirements apply: 

  • For NGOs that received project grants for two to three two-year projects in 2022, the following applies: They cannot submit new applications. Please submit your follow-up applications, including interim report statistics.
    This is the first time that we have had a debate on this subject

  • For NGOs that received a single project grant for a two-year project in 2022: Please submit the follow-up application including interim reporting. In addition, you can submit a maximum of one new application.

You can now submit your application online in the application portal. Click on the button "Enter request" to access the portal. 

The deadline for applications is 28 February 2023. From 1 March 2023, we will not accept any further applications for 2023.  

Applications by e-mail will no longer be accepted.

Final reporting of project contributions 2022 and 2021

The deadline for the submission of the final reports for the 1-year projects supported in 2022 as well as the improvements to the final reports for the projects supported in 2021 is the 
3 February 2023. Please use the following forms:

Project Cycle Management (PCM) - Introductory course for NGO employees

In order to meet the requirements for implementation monitoring and impact measurement of the funded projects by the City of Zurich, the applications to be submitted or the reports of the projects must contain a Results Framework.  In cooperation with the NADEL (Center for Development and Cooperation) of ETH Zurich, we offer interested NGOs a two-day, free course.

The course is aimed at employees of Swiss NGOs who would like to submit project applications to the City of Zurich and become more familiar with Project Cycle Management (PCM).

Advisory Commission for International Cooperation

The mayor approves support services after the advisory commission has given its opinion. For the term of office 2022 - 2026, the City Council has appointed the following persons as members with STRB No. 0775_2022:

Projects 2022

The Mayor approved contributions totalling CHF 3,731 million for international cooperation. The Advisory Commission for International Cooperation recommended 41 applications for support.

The Mayor approved contributions amounting to CHF 3,641 million for development cooperation. The advisory commission appointed by the City Council of Zurich has recommended 50 applications for support.
