Layout 8 ist ein Projekt des gleichnamigen schweizerisch-indischen Künstlerkollektivs, das 2011 in Neu Delhi gegründet wurde. Das Kollektiv Layout besteht aus vier Künstlern, die in den Bereichen Malerei, Szenografie, kinetische Kunst und Kontextkunst tätig sind. Layout versucht, typische architektonische Prozesse und Formen durch unterschiedliche Herangehensweisen in ein Kunstwerk zu transformieren. Im Dialog zwischen Kunst und Architektur fliessen sowohl die unterschiedlichen Ansätze und Arbeitsweisen der Kollektivmitglieder als auch deren unterschiedliche Herkunft und Kultur mit ein.

Nach sieben erfolgreichen Layout-Arbeiten auf dem indischen Subkontinent trifft sich das Kollektiv zum ersten Mal in der Schweiz. Die Zusammenarbeit kann ab 12. Juni im Pfingstweidpark in Zürich-West live mitverfolgt werden. Im Kontrast zu den quaderförmigen Neubauten in Zürich-West entstehen runde Skulpturen aus Backsteinen und Lehm. Dabei interessiert sich Layout für Transformation und Partizipation: Die organisch-archaische Lehmarchitektur ist veränderlich und wird sowohl durch das Wetter geformt als auch durch das Publikum, das eingeladen ist, beim Bau mitzumachen. So werden die Skulpturen in Zusammenarbeit mit dem soziokulturellen Programm des Vereins Kulturweid verändert und unterschiedlich genutzt, z.B. werden sie im Rahmen einer Musikperformance bespielt und bei einer Veranstaltung am 28. Juni als Tandoor-Lehmofen zum Brotbacken verwendet. Die Besucher können diese ortsbezogene ästhetische Konstruktion in verschiedenen Stadien erfahren. Ein Kunst-Laboratorium vor Ort begleitet den Entstehungsprozess von Layout 8 mit Skizzen, Plänen und Modellen. Das Endprodukt regt zu Reflexionen über die gebaute Architektur im urbanen Raum an. L. Layout 8 is a project by the eponymous Swiss-Indian artists’ collective, founded in 2011 in New Delhi. The Layout collective comprises four artists who work in the fields of painting, scenography, kinetic art and context art. By pursuing various strategies, Layout attempts to transform typical architectural processes and forms into an artwork. The different approaches and working methods practiced by the members of this collective, as well as their different origins and cultures, become part of a dialogue between art and architecture.

After seven successful Layout works on the Indian subcontinent, the collective is meeting in Switzerland for the first time. This collaboration can be followed live from the 12th of June at Pfingstweid Park in Zurich West. In contrast to the block-shaped new buildings in Zurich West, round sculptures of brick and clay shall emerge. Here, Layout is interested in transformation and participation: the organic archaic clay architecture is changeable and shall be formed not only by the weather, but also by the public, who are invited to join in with the construction work. Thus, in cooperation with the socio-cultural programme run by Verein Kulturweid, the sculptures shall be altered and put to different uses, e.g. they will provide the setting for a music performance and, at an event on the 28th of June, they will be used as tandoor clay ovens for baking bread. Visitors can experience this site-specific aesthetic construction in various phases. An on-site art laboratory will accompany the process of producing Layout 8, with sketches, plans and models.
